Radio Interview: Paul Ryan’s Troubled Health Plan

The bill no one likes.

I was interviewed on a national radio program today, “To The Point,” on Public Radio International, with host Warren Olney and a panel of U.S. health care experts:

My comments begin around the 19:23 mark.

Rovner, who has covered American health debates for decades, provided helpful context about House Speaker Paul Ryan’s proposed “American Health Care Act” (AHCA), also known as Ryancare or Trumpcare, which is currently being considered in Congress.

Ryan’s AHCA bill would replace the failing Affordable Care Act (ACA or Obamacare) with a revised version of the controversial law.

Pollock, a passionate Obamacare defender, attacked Ryan’s AHCA for causing too many people to lose government-subsidized insurance coverage, including Medicaid. He predicted the bill, if it passes the House, will be amended leftward in the Senate.

Trautwein, representing the big business perspective, lauded the bill’s repeal of certain ACA taxes and mandates that affect employers.

Speaking from a grassroots conservative viewpoint, I criticized Trumpcare, in its current form, for not really repealing Obamacare (it’s “Obamacare 2.0”) nor going far enough to reduce family health insurance premiums.

My comments begin around the 19:23 mark.
